All tourism the potential for environmental, social and economic impact on a destination and tourism practitioners have a duty to be responsible in all their dealings on these three levels.

Tour Operators can contribute effectively to Sustainable Tourism by ensuring that they meet the needs of present tourists and host regions while protecting and enhancing opportunities for future generations to met their own needs.   The ultimate aim will be to ensure that development brings about a positive experience for local people, tourism operators and the tourists themselves.

KATO Members support the basic tenets of Sustainable Tourism and will endeavour to:

• To protect the environment – its flora, fauna and landscapes
• To respect local cultures – traditions, religions and built heritage
• To benefit local communities – both economically and socially
• To conserve natural resources – from office to destination
• To minimise pollution – through noise, waste disposal and congestion
